Position Summary
Moonlight Studios Chicago is seeking dependable and detail-oriented freelance Event Porters to support events at our venue. Event Porters help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and guest-ready environment throughout event setup, guest hours, and breakdown.
This is an on-call position with shifts scheduled according to the venue’s event calendar. Evening, weekend, late-night, and occasional holiday availability is required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of guest areas, restrooms, hallways, entrances, loading areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Complete restroom checks throughout events, including restocking paper products, soap, and other supplies.
- Monitor and empty trash and recycling receptacles before they become full.
- Monitor vendors’ waste-disposal practices and help ensure all trash, recycling, and other materials are placed in the proper receptacles in accordance with Moonlight Studios Chicago’s garbage and dumpster procedures.
- Respond promptly and discreetly to spills, broken glass, and other cleaning needs.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, wipe down surfaces, and spot-clean areas as needed.
- Assist with pre-event preparation and post-event cleanup.
- Help reset furniture, remove debris, and return venue areas to their standard condition.
- Maintain organized porter stations and track cleaning supplies during each shift.
- Notify venue management of safety hazards, property damage, plumbing problems, supply shortages, or unusual conditions.
- Follow venue safety procedures and instructions for using cleaning products and equipment.
- Work respectfully around guests, clients, vendors, caterers, production crews, and other venue personnel.
- Provide professional and courteous assistance when approached by guests.
- Complete assigned opening, event, and closing checklists.
- Perform other event-support duties as assigned by venue management.
Qualifications
- Previous porter, custodial, housekeeping, hospitality, restaurant, or event-venue experience is preferred.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, presentation, and detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced event environment.
- Professional demeanor and good communication skills.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, late nights, and holidays as event schedules require.
- Reliable transportation to and from Moonlight Studios Chicago.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to move trash containers, cleaning equipment, supplies, and lightweight venue furnishings.
- Ability to work around cleaning products, loud music, event lighting, and large groups of people.
- Ability to work both indoors and in exterior entrance or loading areas when required.
Scheduling
Freelance Event Porters are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Shift lengths and start times vary depending on event requirements and may include setup, event coverage, and post-event breakdown. Scheduled hours are not guaranteed and may change with the venue’s event calendar.
Professional Standards
Event Porters are expected to arrive on time, dressed in the required uniform or event attire, and ready to work at the scheduled start time. Because this is a client-facing venue, discretion, professionalism, personal hygiene, and a guest-service mindset are required at all times.
