Position Summary
Moonlight Studios Chicago is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented individual to support event operations and keep our venue clean, organized, and well maintained.
Event portering is the primary responsibility of this position. During event setup, guest hours, and breakdown, this employee supports the venue team by maintaining clean, safe, guest-ready spaces. On days without events, the focus shifts to building cleaning, deep cleaning, routine upkeep, and basic maintenance.
This is a hands-on venue support role. It is not a Project Manager or audiovisual production position with our in-house AV company.
Responsibilities
Event Portering — Primary Priority
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of guest areas, restrooms, hallways, entrances, loading areas, and back-of-house spaces throughout events.
Complete regular restroom checks and restock paper products, soap, and other supplies.
Monitor and empty trash and recycling receptacles before they become full.
Help ensure vendors follow the venue’s garbage, recycling, and dumpster procedures.
Respond promptly and discreetly to spills, broken glass, and other cleaning needs.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, wipe down surfaces, and spot-clean as needed.
Assist with pre-event preparation, post-event cleanup, and venue resets.
Help move and reset furniture, remove debris, and return venue areas to their standard condition.
Work respectfully around guests, clients, vendors, caterers, and production crews.
Provide courteous assistance when approached by guests and refer questions to the appropriate venue team member.
Complete assigned opening, event, and closing checklists.
Building Cleaning & Basic Maintenance
Perform scheduled building cleaning and upkeep on non-event days and between events.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout the building.
Thoroughly clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, fixtures, and floors.
Clean doors, interior glass, counters, furniture, and other surfaces.
Dust accessible surfaces and keep storage, utility, and back-of-house areas organized.
Complete periodic deep cleaning to keep the venue ready for upcoming events.
Maintain clean entrances, sidewalks, and loading areas by removing litter and debris.
Keep cleaning equipment and supplies organized, maintained, and properly stored.
Monitor supply levels and notify management when items need to be reordered.
Perform basic building upkeep, such as minor paint touch-ups, tightening loose hardware, and replacing accessible light bulbs, as trained and directed.
Identify and report property damage, leaks, plumbing issues, equipment problems, and other conditions requiring repair.
Refer repairs requiring specialized skills or licensed trades to venue management.
Follow venue safety procedures and instructions for cleaning products, tools, and equipment.
Perform other related cleaning, maintenance, and venue-support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Previous porter, custodial, housekeeping, building maintenance, hospitality, or event-venue experience is preferred.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision.
Strong attention to cleanliness, presentation, and detail.
Comfortable performing hands-on cleaning and basic maintenance tasks.
Able to manage routine tasks independently and adjust priorities when event needs arise.
Professional demeanor and good communication skills.
Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Available to work evenings, weekends, late nights, and occasional holidays as event schedules require.
Reliable transportation to and from Moonlight Studios Chicago.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to perform the following duties, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Stand and walk for extended periods.
Bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Move trash containers, cleaning equipment, supplies, and venue furnishings, using assistance when needed.
Work around cleaning products, loud music, event lighting, and large groups of people.
Work indoors and in exterior entrance or loading areas when required.
Scheduling
This is a full-time position with a schedule based on the venue’s event calendar and building needs. Event assignments may include setup, event coverage, and post-event breakdown, including evenings, weekends, late nights, and occasional holidays.
On non-event days, scheduled work focuses on building cleaning, deep cleaning, and basic maintenance. Start times and days worked may vary, and event portering takes priority when events are taking place.

Employees are expected to arrive on time, dressed in the required uniform or work attire, and ready to work at the scheduled start time. Discretion, professionalism, personal hygiene, and a guest-service mindset are required at all times.
